Factors that increase the risk of developing primary liver cancer: – Chronic infection with the hepatitis B virus (HBV) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) increases your risk of liver cancer. – Cirrhosis increases your chances of developing liver cancer.
People with diabetes have a higher risk of liver cancer than those without diabetes. – Fat accumulation in the liver without alcohol increases the risk of liver cancer. – Exposure to aflatoxins. Aflatoxins are poisons produced by molds grown in crops stored in poor conditions. Crops such as corn and peanuts may be contaminated with aflatoxins.
Excessive alcohol consumption:
Drinking more than a moderate amount of alcohol every day for many years can lead to irreversible liver damage and increase your risk of liver cancer.
What can be done to prevent liver cancer?
- We should not drink alcohol or take very small doses.
- Staying healthy weight: taking care not to gain excess weight. We must lose weight very slowly and healthily during the weight loss process.
- Be careful with chemicals. We should follow the instructions regarding the chemicals you use at home or at work.
- We should get a hepatitis B vaccine
- We should take precautions to prevent hepatitis C: There is no hepatitis C vaccine, but specialists of liver cancer treatment can reduce your risk of infection.
